a year post-grad: what's changed?
As Graduation has just come and gone, I was reminded of my moment exactly a year ago. The excitement, the sadness, the bittersweet goodbyes, and all the memories that had come and gone. I was ambitious and ready to conquer the world. Not to mention, assuming I was going to be set right out of college and that someone would want to hire me right away. I had all the skills, did the internships, had the degree, and had the motivation and determination to succeed. HOWEVER, life doesn't go as planned.
Where am I now a year post-grad? JUST starting an entry level marketing position with a real estate group. Juggling three jobs and still living at home. Not what I had imagined AT ALL. But I've learned a few things and made a lot of realizations.
LIFE HAS IT'S OWN PLAn. You may think you know what you are going to do and where you are going to be after graduation but unless you have a job offer and a signed lease, nothing is guaranteed. Nothing is set in stone and just because we want something specific doesn't mean that is going to be your path. Now everyone is different, some people are luckier than others. If you're like me, DON'T WORRY!
I find myself on a roller coaster ride with my motivation. One day I'll be on top of the world, a week later I'll look at all the applications I haven't heard back from. It happens. We can't be 100% everyday when you aren't where you want to be. REMEMBER, don't stay too long in that unmotivated state - let it inspire you to get out and work harder. HUSTLE FOR WHAT YOU WANT!
IT IS TEMPORARy.
Unemployment, living at home, where you are in this moment are all temporary. You will get a job, you will move out, and you will move forward. Life takes time and no journey is smooth. You are going to hit bumps and hills, even mountains in your journey. The best thing is that none of it last forever, you have time and your situation will change.
That being said, I am still incredibly happy where I am. I made amazing friends that I never expected to walk into my life, I started my blog, my photography is always improving, I have learned lessons along the way, and I am still motivated and determined more than ever to conquer the world. I love my jobs and the people I get to work with and it is teaching me and preparing me for my next stop in my journey.
REMEMBER: Wherever you are right now, is preparing you for what is coming.
Until Next Time,
