Getting Away From Lazy Saturdays
Updated: Jan 25
Ironically, I am writing this as I am still in bed - watching friends - AND eating Oreos on a Saturday morning. It sounds amazing, I know! But if you're like me and you work Monday through Friday, you're exhausted by the end of the week. Nothing sounds better than laying in bed all day and doing absolutely nothing.
The down side to adjusting to Corporate America and being up at 6AM all week is that when Saturday comes my body is on an internal alarm clock that wakes me up by 7:30 AM latest!
Then comes the decision do you actually get up or lay in bed for hours watching Netflix?
Now there is nothing wrong with staying in bed and relaxing, I'm doing that right now. Well, with a side of being semi-productive writing this post. Yet, at times wasting away the day is just as draining as getting up and getting out for the day. The weather is warmer, the days are brighter and there is tons to do. Whether you have errands to run, cleaning to do, spontaneous adventures to take - you might as well enjoy the time off you have.
The thing we don't always value with our time off is the FREE TIME. Depending on your job and your commute, I know I don't get home until at least 7:30PM and my day is shot. There isn't much you can do besides eat and get ready for the next day. It is sad to have that realization that it is almost impossible to actually do anything fun during the week without being extremely exhausted for work the next day. We get into our routines and once you join the working world, you find less and less time to spend with the people you love.
This is when we have to make decisions with the time we do have. USE your day off to have fun and spend time with friends and family. USE the time for some self-care. USE the time you have to go find a new restaurant or a new coffee shop. USE the time to develop a hobby or a new interest. Get away from screen time and go outdoors. Your free time won't last forever and the weekend will fly by before you know it.
I know it can be hard to find things to do sometimes, especially if you're on a budget. But, that doesn't mean you shouldn't do SOMETHING. It just means you have to be a little smarter about the things you are doing.
Here are a few things to keep in mind for your next weekend or day off!
Use this time to take care of yourself. Don't let yourself fall apart from your crazy life and stress. Go for a facial, get your nails done, have a spa day, sip on a glass of wine. Whatever takes the stress out and makes you feel good should be done regularly.
Relax in a productive way
Sit back, kick your feet up, and read a book or do something to still challenge your mind. There are ways to relax that isn't being a total couch potato.
run errands - get s$!t done
I'm sure you have somewhere to go or something to check off the list. So get up and get out and get it done!
Get your workout in
It can seem impossible to find that work-gym balance depending on your schedule so take your weekends and get moving. Whether you go for a run, go to the gym, go take a class, or do some yoga - make sure to keep your body active.
go for a drive
Sometimes being in the car with the windows down and the music up can be so relaxing. No destination, just following the hood of the car and where ever it takes you.
MIMOSAS!? Getting time in with your ladies (or your boys) is SO IMPORTANT! The busier you get the harder it is to keep up relationships. However, you need that social connection in life and I truly believe that it fuels a happiness in you.
pick up a hobby
What has always seemed interesting but you just never had the time? Find something new to try, something to work at that you actually want to do. Could be a dance class, could be cooking, could be photography, or even blogging.
Just get some fresh air. Whether you go for a walk or go to the beach. Explore a little and get lost. Especially if you sit at a desk all week - you don't get time to always enjoy relaxing outdoors in the sunshine. There is always something going on somewhere, you just have to find it.
clean, clean, clean
The weekends were practically made for cleaning cause when else can you dedicate some serious time to making your home spotless.
I hope you enjoyed a few ways to get active on your lovely Saturday! There is so much you can do, so get off your lazy bum and get it done. I promise you'll thank me later.
Until Next Time,
